DAEKI and JUN – Cultural Code & Flag Works

Studenten van Seoul National University (SNU) en het California College of the Arts (CCA) verkennen de ziel van hun stad. In een internationale workshop bundelen ze hun indrukken in een reeks unieke vlaggen, die de identiteit van Seoul en San Francisco proberen te vatten.

Samen duiken ze in de zichtbare en onzichtbare lagen van de stadscultuur. Alles komt aan bod: van architectuur en symbolen tot de ongrijpbare sfeer op straat. In gemengde teams vertalen ze die culturele codes naar één krachtig, gezamenlijk ontwerp. Zo ontstaat een visuele dialoog tussen twee totaal verschillende werelden.

Het resultaat is te zien bij 019 in Gent, na eerdere presentaties op de San Francisco Art Book Fair en het California College of the Arts.

Students from Seoul National University (SNU) and the California College of the Arts (CCA) explore the soul of their city. In an international workshop, they distill their impressions into a series of unique flags that aim to capture the identity of Seoul and San Francisco.

Together, they dive into the visible and invisible layers of urban culture. Everything is considered: from architecture and symbols to the intangible atmosphere of the streets. In mixed teams, they translate these cultural codes into a single, powerful, collaborative design. This creates a visual dialogue between two completely different worlds.

The results are on display at 019 in Ghent, following previous presentations at the San Francisco Art Book Fair and the California College of the Arts.
