OPEN CALL: DOKATA

DOKATA is an elementary school located in the Sint-Salvatorstraat in Ghent, near 019. Years ago, a previous project left behind a flagpole on the side facade of the schoolbuilding. Now this forgotten flagpole has sparked a new collaboration, in which we challenge the children to curate their own flagpole.

To this end we invite young artists to submit one work via this Open call. All submissions will first be presented to the jury of children, age 12. They will evaluate the artworks and make their selection. Selected works will be presented in a group show at 019 during the weekend of the 3th and 4th of April 2026.

The jury will commission one of the participating artists in the group show to design a series of flags for their school’s flagpole.

We expect you to:
– be an art student at  – or recently graduated (max. 1y) from a school of higher art education, preferably in Ghent.
– submit one existing work, this can be 2D or 3D artwork.  Digital works and video’s will not be excepted due to the nature of the group show
– be able to bring your work to 019 on Friday 27th of March

Selected artists will get:
– to participate in a group show at 019.
– a small fee to cover the display rights of your work and the effort put into participating.
– a chance at being invited by Dokata Elementary school to make a series of flags that can be shown at the school facade during the months June – December 2026.

The deadline of this Open call is 22nd of March 2026.
