Koba De Meutter

Koba De Meutter beweegt zich bij voorkeur in de stad. Daar voert ze kleine acties uit, waarbij ze soms objecten op het voetpad achterlaat, afwachtend hoe passanten zullen reageren. Binnen De Meutters oeuvre vormen deze acties op zich geen kunstwerken. De finaliteit van haar artistiek proces situeert zich binnen de tentoonstellingsruimte, in foto’s of sculpturen. De foto’s vormen getuigenissen van vroeger en elders. De sculpturen lijken te fungeren als een soort extensies of protheses van de kunstenares, gemaakt om de ruimte in te delen, te markeren, en om de toeschouwer uit te nodigen, terwijl deze zich tussen de objecten beweegt, er zich lichamelijk en mentaal toe te verhouden.

Koba De Meutter prefers to move around the city. There she carries out small actions, sometimes leaving objects on the sidewalk, waiting to see how passers-by will react. Within De Meutter’s oeuvre, these actions do not in themselves constitute works of art. The finality of her artistic process is situated within the exhibition space, in photographs or sculptures. The photographs form testimonies of the past and elsewhere. The sculptures seem to act as extensions or prostheses of the artist, made to divide the space, to mark it, and to invite the viewer, as they move among the objects, to relate to them physically and mentally.
