W0W19 – Building Castles in the Sky

W0W19 is een opblaas­baar spring­kas­teel, dat op klei­ne­re schaal de pro­jec­t­ruim­te van het col­lec­tief 019 in Gent weer­spie­gelt. Voor Building Castles in the Sky repre­sen­teert het kas­teel een ode aan alle jeug­di­ge stads­fan­ta­sie­ën die (n)ooit ver­we­zen­lijkt zul­len worden.

Hoe zou je omge­ving eruit­zien als jij het voor het zeg­gen had? Wat zou jij aan je buurt wil­len toe­voe­gen? Wat is er nodig om van een bestaan­de plek een eigen plek te maken? Met Building Castles in the Sky zet Gouvernement samen met een groep makers de ruim­te­lij­ke ver­lan­gens van een jon­ge gene­ra­tie Gentenaars om in eigen­zin­ni­ge cre­a­ties in de stad.

Uit een rij­ke bron van jeug­di­ge ver­beel­ding ver­taalt een aan­tal kun­ste­naars zowel de meest voor­ko­men­de als de meest unie­ke idee­ën. Hoe maak je een ein­de­lo­ze sjaal waar de hele straat het samen warm van krijgt? Waar in de stad bouw je je favo­rie­te video­ga­me levens­groot na? En wat als de stad een pret­park was? Als archi­tec­ten en bouw­mees­ters stu­ren de jon­ge­ren de kun­ste­naars in dit pro­ces aan.

Alle wer­ken bun­de­len we samen in een wan­del­rou­te in de noord­rand van Gent met CAMPO boma als cen­tra­le ont­moe­tings­plek. Leg het par­cours af in etap­pes, op je eigen tem­po, alleen of in goed gezelschap.

In Campo boma ont­vang je een wan­del­rou­te en een maga­zi­ne met de gehei­men van elk kunst­werk, gede­tail­leer­de infor­ma­tie over de loca­ties en de tijd­stip­pen van de per­for­man­ces. Je tic­ket is een vol­le­dig week­end gel­dig en ver­leent je toe­gang tot alle wer­ken.

What would your neigh­bour­hood look like if it were up to you? What would you want to add to your neigh­bour­hood? What would it take to make an exis­ting pla­ce your own? With Building Castles in the Sky, Gouvernement, together with a group of makers, is trans­for­ming the spa­ti­al desi­res of a young gene­ra­ti­on of inha­bi­tants of Ghent into uni­que cre­a­ti­ons in the city.

From a rich sour­ce of yout­h­ful ima­gi­na­ti­on, a num­ber of artists trans­la­te both the most com­mon and the most uni­que ide­as. How do you make an end­less scarf that keeps the who­le street warm? Where in the city do you recre­a­te your favou­ri­te video game life-size? And what if the city was an amu­se­ment park? As archi­tects and mas­ter buil­ders, young peo­p­le gui­de the artists in this process.

All works will be com­bi­ned in a wal­king rou­te in the nor­thern part of Ghent with CAMPO BOMA as the cen­tral mee­ting pla­ce. When you buy a tic­ket, you will recei­ve an iti­ne­ra­ry and a maga­zi­ne with the secrets of each art­work, detai­led infor­ma­ti­on about the loca­ti­ons and times of per­for­man­ces. Your tic­ket is valid for a full week­end. Complete the trail in sta­ges, at your own pace, alo­ne or in good company.
