OPEN CALL: BILLBOARD SERIES

artlead and 019 are launching an open call for their Billboard Series, a long-term art project in public space, where every few months an artist is invited to create work for the large billboard at Dok Noord.

WHO?

We invite artists who live in Ghent or have a strong connection to Ghent to submit proposals for a site-specific artwork to be displayed on the billboard on the south wall of an old welding factory in the former industrial port of Ghent.

HOW?

• Upload a proposal, please keep in mind the 1 x 1,28 ratio of the billboard 
• Provide 5 reference images that demonstrate your style and approach.
•  Submit a short text (maximum 300 words) about your concept for the billboard.
• Include a short artistic CV.

WE OFFER

• €500 to show your work for three months in public space.
• The production of the billboard
• For each billboard, artlead produces a fold-out publication that places the work in a broader artistic context. This publication is widely distributed in Ghent.
• An event at the unveiling of the billboard.

CONDITIONS

• Non-students
• The artist must have a strong connection to Ghent
• Both new and existing works are eligible

SELECTION

A jury (artlead, 019, Curatorial Studies & local residents) will review all submissions and select the artist whose proposal best aligns with the vision of the Billboard Series. The selected artist will be notified by the beginning of November 2024. The jury won’t provide any feedback.

The billboard will be shown in 2025.

Note: The selected artist is responsible for creating the final artwork in accordance with the specifications provided upon selection.

Billboard Series is a project of artlead, in collaboration with 019. It is curated by Thomas Caron, takes place within a scenography by architect Olivier Goethals, and is developed with the support of the City of Ghent.

artlead en 019 lanceren een open oproep voor hun Billboard Series, een langdurig kunstproject in de openbare ruimte, waarbij elke paar maanden een kunstenaar wordt uitgenodigd om werk te creëren voor het grote billboard bij Dok Noord.

WIE?

We nodigen kunstenaars uit die in Gent wonen of een sterke band met Gent hebben om voorstellen in te dienen voor een site-specifiek kunstwerk dat wordt tentoongesteld op het billboard aan de zuidmuur van een oude lasfabriek in de voormalige industriële haven van Gent.

HOE?

• Upload een voorstel, houd rekening met de verhouding 1 x 1,28 van het billboard
• Voorzie 5 referentiebeelden die je stijl en aanpak demonstreren.
• Dien een korte tekst in (maximaal 300 woorden) over je concept voor het billboard.
• Voeg een kort artistiek CV toe.

WIJ BIEDEN

• €500 om je werk drie maanden lang in de openbare ruimte te tonen.
• De productie van het billboard
• Voor elk billboard produceert artlead een opvouwbare publicatie die het werk in een bredere artistieke context plaatst. Deze publicatie wordt wijd verspreid in Gent.
• Een evenement bij de onthulling van het billboard.

VOORWAARDEN

• Niet-studenten
• De kunstenaar moet een sterke band met Gent hebben
• Zowel nieuwe als bestaande werken komen in aanmerking

SELECTIE

Een jury (artlead, 019, Curatorial Studies & lokale bewoners) beoordeelt alle inzendingen en selecteert de kunstenaar wiens voorstel het beste aansluit bij de visie van de Billboard Series. De geselecteerde kunstenaar wordt begin november 2024 op de hoogte gebracht. De jury zal geen feedback geven.

Het billboard zal in 2025 worden getoond.

Opmerking: De geselecteerde kunstenaar is verantwoordelijk voor het creëren van het definitieve kunstwerk in overeenstemming met de specificaties die na selectie worden verstrekt.

Billboard Series is een project van artlead, in samenwerking met 019. Het wordt gecureerd door Thomas Caron, vindt plaats binnen een scenografie door architect Olivier Goethals, en is ontwikkeld met de steun van de Stad Gent.
