Lot Doms – ≈

Lot Doms hanteert de vlag als een veranderlijke drager. In ‘ ≈ ‘  wordt een houten archiefkast, een object uit het atelier van de kunstenaar, onderworpen aan de incidentie van licht en schaduw. Vanuit een toevallig perspectief ontstaat een geometrisch patroon dat de beweging van het textiel volgt.

De kast manifesteert zich in verschillende stadia van het fotografische proces. Het object werd reeds ontleed in eerdere iteraties: de opname (Lichtjes opgeschoven, 2019), de afdruk in de donkere kamer (Lichtjes opgeschoven (vissen), 2019-2025, een reeks fotogrammen van vissen die zich over het golvend patroon bewegen en de fysieke verplaatsing doorheen tijd en ruimte (Lichtjes opgeschoven (in de tuin), 2018-2025 & Lichtjes opgeschoven (in de ruimte), 2019-2025).

Wie verder kijkt dan de herkenbaarheid van het object, treft een wereld die opnieuw vloeibaar wordt. In ‘ ≈ ‘  spelen patronen en lijnen met de waarneming; het functionele object lost op in de omgeving.

Lot Doms employs the flag as a mutable support. In ‘ ≈ ‘  , a wooden filing cabinet, an object from the artist’s studio, is subjected to the incidence of light and shadow. From a chance perspective, a geometric pattern emerges, following the movement of the textile.

The cabinet manifests itself in various stages of the photographic process. The object has been dissected in earlier iterations: the capture (Slightly shifted, 2019), the darkroom print (Slightly shifted (fish), 2025, a series of photograms of fish moving across the waving, and the physical displacement through time and space (Slightly shifted (in the garden), 2018–2025 & Slightly shifted (in space), 2019–2025).

Looking beyond the object’s functional recognition reveals a world that becomes fluid once more. In ‘ ≈ ‘  , patterns and lines play with perception; the functional object dissolves into the surroundings.
